  • AI-Related Risks Test the Limits of Organizational Risk Management

The spring 2024 issue’s special report looks at how to take advantage of market opportunities in the digital space, and provides advice on building culture and friendships at work; maximizing the benefits of LLMs, corporate venture capital initiatives, and innovation contests; and scaling automation and digital health platform.

The spring 2024 issue’s special report looks at how to take advantage of market opportunities in the digital space, and provides advice on building culture and friendships at work; maximizing the benefits of LLMs, corporate venture capital initiatives, and innovation contests; and scaling automation and digital health platform.

For the third year in a row, MIT Sloan Management Review and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have assembled an international panel of AI experts that includes academics and practitioners to help us gain insights into how responsible artificial intelligence (RAI) is being implemented in organizations worldwide. Last year, we published a report titled “Building Robust RAI Programs as Third-Party AI Tools Proliferate.” This year, we continue to examine organizational capacity to address AI-related risks but in a landscape that includes the first comprehensive AI law on the books — the European Union’s AI Act. To kick things off, we asked our experts and one large language model to react to the following provocation: Organizations are sufficiently expanding risk management capabilities to address AI-related risks. A clear majority (62%) of our panelists disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement, citing the speed of technological development, the ambiguous nature of the risks, and the limits of regulation as obstacles to effective risk management. Below, we share insights from our panelists and draw on our own observations and experience working on RAI initiatives to offer recommendations on how organizations might leverage organizational risk management capabilities to address AI-related risks.

  • 'Tales of Kenzera ZAU' Review: This Unforgettable Metroidvania Swept Me Away

These are the quotable, introspective words that open Surgent Studios' debut game, Tales Of Kenzera: ZAU. It was the first of many lines of dialogue (performed exquisitely by a talented cast of voice actors) that kept me enraptured throughout this wonderful little Metroidvania.

There are plenty of reasons why I’d recommend Tales. Learning to master its complex platforming, clever combat mechanics and satisfying skill tree is a total joy. Its refreshingly original premise, afro-futurist setting, and charismatic characters are unlike anything else you’ve played before. And its mercifully short runtime ensures that every new power and major set piece is given the right amount of time to shine across its four acts.

  • 24 Years Later, Marvel Just Sneakily Rebooted Wolverine Canon in the MCU

The cinematic continuity of the X-Men isn’t changing at all. It's just taking another detour.

Will the real Wolverine please stand up? After time traveling to the past to save the future in 2014 and going on a road trip with Professor X and his daughter (and then dying) in 2017, the X-Man formally known as Logan is back once again. But in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is technically not playing the “our” Wolverine. Instead, he’s a variant of the character from a timeline the movies, which began in the year 2000, haven’t ever depicted before.

  • 'Deadpool and Wolverine' Trailer Reveals the Most Terrifying X-Men Villain You've Never Heard Of

Deadpool and Wolverine are like oil and water, which is why we haven’t seen them in a trailer together until today. Together, their odd couple dynamics have everything you could possibly want in a Marvel movie and in a Deadpool movie, and that’s exactly what Deadpool and Wolverine is. But no matter how charismatic the leads, no Marvel movie can be supported by them alone — and we also finally got a look at one of the major side characters with a fascinating tie to the X-Men.

In the new trailer for the upcoming movie, we get our first look at Emma Corrin’s character, a bald British figure who playfully says “Boys are so silly” while sipping a cup of tea. For fans of the comics, it’s very clear who this character is — Cassandra Nova.

  • Netflix's Most Successful Epic Show Is at a Dangerous Crossroads

Say what you will of The Witcher, but Netflix’s epic fantasy franchise refuses to fall. Even after a couple of lackluster seasons, plus a spinoff that failed to make a real impression, The Witcher is soldiering on... but not before cutting some dead weight.

Netflix had plans for another live-action spinoff series to bloom from The Witcher’s third season. It was set to follow the teen misfits known as The Rats, whom Ciri (Freya Allen) meets at the end of Season 3. The spinoff — appropriately named The Rats — was a prequel series, tracing the group's history before their Witcher appearance. But according to Redanian Intelligence, Netflix has scrapped the series after reviewing early footage. The streamer will reportedly repurpose the material for The Witcher’s upcoming season, so we may still see their story as a flashback.

  • 'Hades 2' Already Feels Like the Most Ambitious Sequel of the Year

Hades is back. After multiple visits to the underworld Erebus, I started to wrap my head around what’s new about Hades 2, how Melinoe was more strategic and light compared to the berserker fury of the first game’s protagonist Zagreus. I had been slowly chipping away more of the boss’ health each time, until I stumbled upon the perfect skill setup that had Poseidon turning my ranged attacks into surging tidal waves of destruction. Suddenly, the boss was down in under 30 seconds.

I’ve sunk about 20 hours into the Hades 2 technical test, which is just a small snippet of the first area of the game that’ll be available when it launches in early access. Still, that time has shown me that Supergiant Games has learned all the right lessons with its first sequel: it’s not just more of the same.

  • The Most Anticipated Retro RPG of 2024 Is Too Stuck In the Past

From the moment of its announcement in 2020, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has had the attention of old-school RPG fans. The game was immediately hailed as a successor to Konami’s role-playing series Suikoden, both thanks to its resemblance to that PlayStation classic in its reveal trailer and the fact that it’s directed by Suikoden’s creator, Yoshitaka Murayama. Now that Eiyuden Chronicle has been released, it’s clear that it is every bit the Suikoden successor that fans were hoping for, but one that feels rooted to the original PlayStation era in ways both good and bad.

Eiyuden Chronicle opens with a story setup about as classic as they come in RPGs. The evil Empire is overstepping its bounds, pushing against the border of its smaller neighbor to incite conflict. Their ploy soon leads to open combat, and the main character is part of a scrappy band of adventurers who inevitably hold the key to restoring peace.

  • 45 Years Later, the Most Influential Sci-Fi Thriller Ever is Back in Theaters -- With a Twist

After Star Wars brought sci-fi to dizzying new heights, the genre rapidly pivoted to fantastical space operas. But in 1979, Ridley Scott’s Alien gave the creature feature a huge upgrade with a thriller that made outer space look terrifying. It’s been 45 years since then, and gory space-bound thrillers have since become a genre staple. Now, before the latest Alien movie attempts to re-invent the genre again, you can catch the original back in theaters this very week.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Alien will return to theaters on April 26 to celebrate its (almost) 45th anniversary, but there will be more to see than just the movie. The showings will begin with a conversation between Ridley Scott and Fede Álvarez, who’s directing the upcoming Alien: Romulus. Tickets are now available, and you can check out the video announcement below.

  • Super73's Retro-Looking E-Bikes Just Got a Muscle Car Makeover

Super73’s penchant for a refreshed old-school aesthetic is still alive and kicking. Inspired by the classic American muscle car and motorsports, Super73’s e-bikes for the model year 2024 don three new limited-run colorways: the Bandit SE, the Palladium SE, and the Speedway LE.

According to Super73’s co-founder and CEO, LeGrand Crewse, the company listened to customer feedback when it came to upgrading its latest e-bikes. As a result, the new-and-improved e-bikes feature a more durable throttle design, an interchangeable battery system, and numbered badging on the limited-edition colorways to give a sense of uniqueness.
