Custom-made uniforms in the heart of New York City since 1892

In 1892, Ike Busch opened a small shop in the Chinatown neighborhood of Manhattan, where he sold clothing and fabrics that came off the merchant boats in New York Harbor. By the turn of the 20th century, I. Buss, as the shop became known, soon transitioned into uniforms. Ike and his three sons— Joe, Harold, and Phil—grew the family business, manufacturing made-to-order uniforms for military servicemen, policemen, postal workers, and railway workers.

Custom-made uniforms & fashion go hand in hand…

In 1892, Ike Busch opened a small shop in the Chinatown neighborhood of Manhattan, where he sold clothing and fabrics that came off the merchant boats in New York Harbor. By the turn of the 20th century, I. Buss, as the shop became known, soon transitioned into uniforms. Ike and his three sons— Joe, Harold, and Phil—grew the family business, manufacturing made-to-order uniforms for military servicemen, policemen, postal workers, and railway workers.  Stuart and Seralie, Phil’s children, took over the business and later opened a retail store which sold army navy surplus and popular items.  It was one of the most  well known stores for surplus between the years of 1978 and 1986, and all the while  they kept the uniform business going.  In 1968, Stuart and Seralie opened the rental division of I.Buss, called Allan Uniforms.  I.Buss & Allan was the first company to rent custom uniforms to doorman buildings.   Stuart’s daughter, Jennifer started working in the business in her late twenties and over the years put I.Buss on the map as not only manufacturers but as designers. She landed signature accounts and created custom designs for New York City’s  most iconic buildings.  In addition to I.Buss &Allan Uniforms, Jennifer started JLB Designs where she and her team design custom neckwear and accessories for their clients. Jenn’s latest venture is Pipenn, is a highend fashion line, featuring clothing made from custom prints. Pipenn is the sister brand to I.Buss &Allan.
